Product overview

F17 sawn unseasoned hardwood is a high-strength structural timber supplied green (not kiln-dried) for load-bearing applications in residential and commercial construction. Its F17 stress grade makes it ideal for beams, bearers, joists, lintels, and bracing where robust performance is required. Unseasoned hardwood offers excellent nail-holding, impact resistance, and on-site workability, with natural variation in colour and grain that’s typical of Australian hardwoods. Common sizes are available for quick take-offs and efficient install across floors, roofs, and deck subframes.

Key features

  • Structural grade: F17 stress grade for demanding load-bearing applications.
  • High strength: Excellent bending and compression capacity for beams, bearers, and joists.
  • Unseasoned green timber: Supplied sawn and not kiln-dried; expect natural shrinkage and checking as it acclimates.
  • Workability: Cuts, drills, and fixes well with standard carpentry tools; strong nail and screw holding.
  • Durability: Suitable for protected external use when detailed correctly; treat or seal exposed end grain.
  • Versatile sizes: Stocked in common structural sections for rapid framing and efficient spans.
  • Cost-effective: Value-focused alternative to engineered products for traditional framing methods.
  • Best practice install: Allow for movement, pre-drill near edges, and use appropriate corrosion-resistant fixings.

Common uses

  • Bearers and joists: Floor framing in residential and light commercial builds.
  • Lintels and beams: Openings over windows and doors, verandah and patio beams.
  • Deck subframes: Robust understructure for external decking (use suitable fixings and detailing).
  • Roof framing: Rafters, purlins, and structural bracing where high strength is needed.
  • Temporary works: Strong, reliable timber for formwork and propping.
  • General framing: Posts, plates, and noggins in conventional timber construction.
